The Highlands Ability Battery is a state-of-the-art on-line assessment tool, based on the work of research scientist Johnson O’Connor. Nineteen different timed work samples measure the speed with which a person is able to perform a particular series of tasks, objectively measuring innate abilities. The Battery is different from traditional self-assessment tools that rely on self-reporting or external assessments; it does not measure skills or knowledges, which are learned. Instead, it is an objective measure of a person’s natural ability to perform defined hands-on tasks.
The scores, shown together on a personal profile and bar chart, reveal patterns or “clusters” of abilities. Kathleen provides a skilled analysis of the scores enabling participants to understand the patterns in order to identify career/life goals that best utilize these talents and create action plans to achieve them.
Natural abilities are important to consider when making educational, career and life decisions. Unlike skills, which are learned through training, practice and experience, abilities are the way a person is “hard wired.” Natural abilities influence:
- the environment that feels most comfortable to you
- how you learn new information most easily
- how you solve problems and make decision most efficiently
- how you communicate with others most effectively
Attorneys can use this self-management tool to:
- improve their performance at work
- relate more effectively to others
- identify alternative career paths or new directions in current career
- re-enter the workforce
- achieve greater satisfaction in work and life
