Carol Kanarek has provided career-related services (including career counseling and coaching, interview training, recruitment audits and focus groups) to major law firms for over 20 years. She holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Anthropology, and received her J.D. in 1979 from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was a legal writing instructor, a staff member of The Journal of Law Reform, and an instructor in a section of Women and the Law. Prior to establishing her consulting practice Carol worked as a corporate associate with Thacher, Proffitt & Wood in New York and, subsequently, as the Director of Career Services and a legal writing instructor at New York Law School. In May of 2000 she received a Masters Degree in clinical social work from New York University.
Ms. Kanarek served as chairperson of the Career Issues Committee of the American Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division from 1986-88, and conceived of and edited the first edition of Changing Jobs: A Handbook for Lawyers, which was published by the American Bar Association in 1989. She is a contributing author to Your New Lawyer (A.B.A. Press, 1994), the 3rd edition of the Changing Jobs book (A.B.A. Press, 1999), What Can You Do With a Law Degree (Decision Books, 2005),and has written numerous articles which have appeared in a variety of legal publications, including The New York Law Journal, Barrister Magazine, Corporate Counsel Magazine, “L”Magazine, Legal Times, Trial Magazine and The Practical Lawyer. She frequently is invited to be a speaker at meetings of the National Association for Law Placement, state and local bar associations, programs sponsored by local and national law schools, and continuing education seminars. Kathleen Brady has over 20 years of experience counseling attorneys on job search strategies including identifying opportunities and learning to network; interviewing and negotiating, and recovering from a layoff. She also assists attorneys with professional development issues such as career planning, delegating and supervising, delivering feedback, effective mentoring and time management. Brady has comprehensive industry knowledge. She started her career in the Placement Office at Columbia Law School and went on to serve as Assistant Dean of Career Services at Fordham University School of Law, National Director of Staff Recruitment and Development at Jackson Lewis and Manager of Associate Professional Development at Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy, LLP. The experience she has gained working on both the employer and school side of the career development process enables her to provide valuable assistance and unique insights into the professional development of attorneys in transition.

Ms. Brady served as the president of the National Association for Law Placement from 1995-1996 and as a founding member of the NALP Foundation for Research and Education. She authored two books, Navigating Detours on the Road to Success: A Lawyer’s Guide to Career Management (Inkwater Press, 2005) and Jobs for Lawyers, Effective Techniques for Getting Hired in Today’s Legal Marketplace (Impact Publications, 1996) as well as numerous articles for The New York Law Journal, ABA Law Practice Management and NALP Bulletin.
